About the Region

South Central

The South Central region groups Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. It includes Gulf Coast communities, plains, uplands, and major metropolitan areas such as Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston, alongside smaller cities and rural places.

Humid coastal conditions do not describe the whole region, and inland temperature and rainfall patterns vary. Local housing, travel distances, and access to services differ as well. Use the city figures and monthly climate charts rather than treating one Texas metro as a model for the region.
